FAQ - International Departure Charges

1. How much is the International airport Departure Charge?
It is NZ$25.00 for each passenger aged 12 years and over. For flights departing prior to 30 March 2008, receipts may be purchased at the Service Counter adjacent to the international check-in counters, or from the Airport company offices during office hours 8am to 5pm Mon-Fri. Payment of the Departure Charge may be made by cash, EFTPOS, VISA or Mastercard. An ASB Bank ATM is also available in the terminal building for cash requirements.

2. Can I pay for the Departure Charge in Australian currency?
Yes, Australian currency is accepted for international flights. Australian currency will be exchanged at the published exchange rate and a fee applies - more information is available on currency exchange services

3. What is the Departure Charge used for?
It is used to meet the airport's costs associated with servicing international flights, including the provision of border processing space in the terminal building, aviation security, and safety planning for these flights. It is a commercial charge and similar charges apply at all New Zealand international airports.
